In Other Words. . .
Less than a month after the Port of Vancouver USA’s 100th anniversary on April 6, 2012, the port celebrated another milestone—the release of its first published book.
The port’s centennial-themed book is called All Ahead Full, and was written by former Columbian reporter and accomplished writer Ted Van Arsdol. The limited-edition commemorative piece captures the historical essence of the Port of Vancouver’s first 100 years. Complete with photos, quotes, and little-known facts from the port’s early days, both the hardcover and e-book will be made available to local libraries, colleges, and high schools in fall 2012.
The Port of Vancouver held a sneak peek book event on Tuesday, April 24, for its Centennial Committee members, allowing these port ambassadors to be the first to see the completed book. Historical port artifacts were on display, and a presentation was given by the port’s records officer, Matt Oftedahl, highlighting the importance of cherishing the past while looking forward to the future.
Starting May 14, 2012, a limited number of copies of All Ahead Full will be available for purchase at the cost of $35 each (checks only) during regular business hours at the Port of Vancouver Administrative Office located at 3103 NW Lower River Road, Vancouver, WA 98660. Please stop by between 8 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday to pick up your very own copy.
