P1A-trail_blog-200p-08232012_2706The Port of Vancouver USA is in the midst of planning to build a multi-use pathway that will run from Gateway Avenue to the eastern boundary of Parcel 1A, approximately 0.5 miles along the southern edge of Highway SR 501. The trail section is a critical step forward in the collective efforts of the Vancouver-Clark Parks Department to eventually connect the path currently running through downtown Vancouver to the Frenchman’s Bar Trail near the flushing channel and Vancouver Lake.

The 12-foot wide path currently being designed, also known as the Parcel 1A Trail will run along the south side of NW Lower River Road and is being separated from the road by approximately 16 feet of native plantings.

The port will begin building the trail this fall with plans to be completed by the end of 2012. The construction of this trail will allow Vancouver residents to safely bike or walk along this portion of port property and view wildlife and the wetland mitigation bank to the north and port operations to the south.
