GWM-Vancouver_webTwo projects will make significant improvements to gain better access for people and vehicles within the Port of Vancouver. While the port’s expanded rail projects have improved service and expanded capacity, they will limit other access by design to the east end of the terminal due to longer trains creating blockages.

The first access improvement will relocate the East Gate entrance to the Great Western Malting facility. A new entrance at Gate 5 off of Mill Plain Blvd and Thompson Avenue will replace this entrance. A Port of Vancouver security officer will be staffing Gate 5 and will be checking credentials upon entry. Also, at this time the Gate 5 access area will be undergoing construction and maintenance for road improvements and the installation of an automated gate system. Please use caution while driving in the area.

Planned concurrently is the port’s Grain Subdivision Pedestrian Bridge Project, which will allow safe passage for people to cross over a busy rail corridor to access Great Western Malting and other facilities. The port is in the process of bidding for a contractor for the project, which will conclude on Oct. 11.

Both projects are expected to improve the safety and accessibility at the east end of the port.
