P19_20130314_span1pour2Apollo, Inc. of Kennewick, Washington is more than 90 percent complete with the West Vancouver Freight Access Project Gateway Avenue Grade Separation that provides a new automobile and truck access to Terminal 5 over the expanding rail yard.

The concrete bridge deck installation for the longest of the three spans, what we call span #1, occurred on Thursday, March 14.  Provided the weather cooperates, the remaining two spans will be poured today, March 18 and tomorrow, March 19.   Work is also underway to complete other bridge elements such as curbs, railing, fencing, paving and related pavement markings.

The project, which is set for completion in June 2013, builds an overpass that separates vehicle traffic from train traffic below. The new bridge will allow cars and trucks to travel over the port’s growing internal rail corridor while accessing two of the port’s five marine terminals.
