P_19After the remaining span of the bridge deck was poured in late March, the Gateway Avenue Grade Separation project continues moving forward.  The project, which is part of the greater West Vancouver Freight Access project, is set for completion in June 2013 and builds an overpass that separates vehicle traffic from train traffic below. The new bridge will allow cars and trucks to travel over the port’s growing internal rail corridor while accessing two of the port’s five marine terminals.

The sidewalks are in the finishing stages of being formed, while the rebar and reinforcing steel have been installed.

Remaining work includes concrete pours at the moment slab barrier, curb and gutter sites, which could begin as early as this week. These concrete pours require a 24 hour setting period and a 12 day drying period. The railings on both sides of the bridge await installation as well. In the final stages, expansion joints will be constructed to allow expansion and contraction of the bridge.
