WVFAP19_Gateway-Ave-Grade-Separation_20130907_webThe Gateway Avenue Grade Separation project resumed construction the week of August 19 after delaying completion due to water levels affecting soil settlement. Crews have since made considerable progress on the project that builds an overpass that separates vehicle traffic from train traffic below. The new bridge will allow cars and trucks to travel over the port’s growing internal rail corridor while accessing two of the port’s five marine terminals.

Apollo, Inc., the prime contractor for the project, is underway with the final stages of construction, which includes preparation to install the approach slabs on each side of the bridge. This work includes grading, placing concrete forms, installing reinforcing steel and finally pouring concrete.

Crews are also securing railings on both sides of the bridge and constructing expansion joints to allow for expansion and contraction of the bridge. Final project completion is projected for October 17.
