P15Project 15 of the West Vancouver Freight Access Project, which is currently about 45 percent complete, reached a milestone on April 12 when crews removed the final remnants of three Great Western Malting (GWM) grain silos, making way for the port’s growing rail infrastructure.

Rhine Demolition performed work on the unused silo superstructure through a series of crunching and saw-cutting operations. Demolition of the silos marks the first time in 60 years that views both east and west can be seen from this location. Soon, this passage will house two rail lines connected to the port’s new rail entrance, carrying imports and exports from around the world.

Currently, crews are continuing to demolish the silo basement structures, focusing on final saw cutting activities as well as excavation, hauling, processing and recycling of demolished structures.

Completion of the demolition project is expected in August.
