Port CEO Todd Coleman shares economic perspective at 2015 State of the County
Local leaders, including Port of Vancouver USA CEO Todd Coleman, gathered at Skyview High School on March 12 for the annual State of the County address.
Clark County councilors David Madore, Tom Mielke and Jeanne Stewart kicked off the event by presenting Parks Director Bill Bjerke with the county’s Employee of the Year Award. The councilors also presented three “Spirit of Clark County” awards to volunteers and volunteer groups that exemplify the charitable spirit of our community.
Port CEO Todd Coleman was a special guest, along with Clark County Sheriff Chuck Atkins and Acting County Manager Mark McCauley.
Coleman shared views about the economic health of Clark County, as seen from his unique perspective.
“As the CEO of one of Clark County’s three public ports, it’s my honor to say a few words about our local economy,” he said. “For me, that means looking at how the Port of Vancouver’s been doing, as we generally reflect economic trends. And what I have to share is good news, because 2014 was the best year for revenue and tonnage in our 103-year history.”
The port’s 2014 cargo and revenue numbers reflect continued economic recovery and bode well for the economic future of our community.
“These numbers, these increases, mean opportunity for our community,” Coleman said. “They mean more jobs, more tax revenue and more investments in the infrastructure that attracts business to Clark County.”
Sheriff Atkins spoke about how public safety is improving in Clark County, and he encouraged volunteerism.
McCauley spoke of the excellence of Clark County staff and expressed his appreciation for their good work.
Other speakers included councilors Madore, Mielke and Stewart, Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer Bryce Helgerson, and Sherwood Neighborhood Association Chair Vicki Fitzsimmons.
