In June 2015, the Port of Vancouver USA and community partners celebrated the opening of a new section of multiuse trail along Northwest Lower River Road (State Route 501). The bicycle/pedestrian trail benefits the local community by supporting multimodal transportation by helping improve safety and connectivity.

The port secured a $500,000 Transportation Alternatives Program grant in 2015 that will fund connection of the new section of trail (segment 2) that will connect the recently opened section with an existing trail at Farwest Steel, about one-half mile northwest of the port administrative office. Design of this new section is underway with construction expected to begin in spring 2016.

The port’s multiuse trail is being completed in segments. When fully complete, the trail will extend 4.5 miles along Northwest Lower River Road, connecting with the city of Vancouver’s Renaissance Trail to the east and Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park to the west.
