Grain Subdivision Pedestrian Bridge Nears Completion Two projects are making significant safety and accessibility improvements for people and vehicles within the Port of Vancouver. POV-pedestrian-bridge-2012

The Grain Subdivision Pedestrian Bridge project crosses over three rail tracks serving United Grain Corporation, providing safe passage between the Great Western Malting offices and Flexi Malt Building on one side, to the Roast House, Grain Storage and Rail Load and Unloading facilities on the opposite side. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.

The steel bridge is 75 feet in length and 24 feet tall, with 45 steps to the top. Remaining work includes installing the second set of stairs and handrails to each staircase.

The project is a partnership between the port and Great Western Malting. Great Western Malting designed and permitted the project and the port contracted with JH Kelly to construct the bridge.

The Pedestrian Bridge was planned concurrently with the Gate 5 entrance to the port, which will ease congestion in and out of the port by creating a dedicated entrance, complete with keypad, camera and swinging gate, for the Great Western Malting facility.

Both projects will improve safety and accessibility at the east end of the port in 2013.
