Loop Track Expansion in Final Stages
The expansion of the Port of Vancouver’s Terminal 5 loop track is nearing completion. The rail tie-ins are installed and functional, as well as the expansion of the southern half of the rail loop. An access road has also been placed between the inner and outer tracks.
The Project, part of the larger West Vancouver Freight Access project, will add approximately 2,450 feet of new track and relocate 6,300 feet of track within the Terminal 5 loop track. This configuration will result in the ability to handle 120 cars at the new facility versus the original 110.
A crossing road will be paved next week to allow alternative access inside the loop, and electrical signalized crossing sensors are being installed on the outer track. Check valves, which act as manholes and prevent the Columbia River from reaching the track in case of a flood installation will follow. The fencing work is approximately 70 percent complete, with final completion of the project projected for mid-April of this year.
