POV_WVFA-p16_webThe Port of Vancouver’s “trench” project, which provides a new rail access for the port along the Columbia River, has reached yet another milestone. This project, part of the larger West Vancouver Freight Access project, will allow trains entering the port to cross below the BNSF and Union Pacific Railroad’s north/south mainline on the Columbia River Rail Bridge.

In order for this new rail alignment to be installed, a pile-supported, watertight trench is being constructed. Hamilton Construction is in the midst of driving piles made of a steel as far as 120 feet into the ground to provide foundation support for the new rail. Construction crews are working day and night to beat the fall rains.
