POV-P1A-Trail-010413The Port of Vancouver’s Parcel 1A Trail project is making progress as the quarter mile area along the south side of Lower River Road was graded last week. Work included re-sloping, cleaning up the road edge and creating a subgrade area. Rock for the asphalt layer is currently being installed.

The multi-use pathway runs from Gateway Avenue to the eastern boundary of the Parcel 1A wetland, with plans to extend the trail further in the future. The 12-foot wide path is being separated from the road by approximately 16 feet of native plantings, which will be planted following the installation of electrical work and irrigation.

The port began building the trail in fall 2012 with plans to be completed by March 1, 2013. The construction of this trail will allow Vancouver residents to safely bike or walk along this portion of port property and view wildlife and the wetland mitigation bank to the north and port operations to the south.
