DSC_0145_webToday marks a much anticipated and long awaited milestone on the Gateway Avenue Grade Separation Project—roadway paving began early this morning.

Another bright, sunny, perfect-for-paving day at the Port of Vancouver is upon us and we are taking full advantage. Depending on moisture build-up, crews may only perform the first of two lifts, or layers of asphalt planned for today. To entirely complete the paving will require a total of three lifts, with the final lift scheduled for placement on Friday. Approximately 3,200 tons of asphalt will comprise the new roadway surface with about 2,000 tons being placed today.

The new bridge will allow cars and trucks to travel over the port’s growing internal rail corridor while accessing two of the port’s five marine terminals. The bridge eases congestion and allows safe and efficient access to the port. Weather depending, vehicles will be able to use the overpass beginning the week of October 14.
