UGC-2005_webThe construction of a new 3,000 square foot security building at the port’s Terminal 3 will go out for bid on Thursday, with bids being opened on August 15. Construction of new grain silos at United Grain Corporation required the demolition of the previous security building in 2010.

With the expansion of the port’s operations and sheer acreage, the new port security headquarters will be designed as a state-of-the-art facility. Included in the upgraded security building will be expanded and centralized surveillance systems that will span the growing port facilities. The project was made possible by a Marine Domain Awareness (MDA) grant, which also assisted with putting new cameras in place in various areas of the terminal.

The port teamed with KPFF consulting engineers and BBL Architects to design and build the office space, which is on schedule to be taken to port commissioners August 27. The project is projected to begin construction in early September, with final completion by January 31, 2014.
