dthfdecantfacilityIn conjunction with the rest of their duties, the port maintenance team has completed the port’s new decant facility two weeks ahead of schedule.

That means that the port’s 800 acres of active industrial and maritime operations can now be swept and the water and debris collected can be disposed of in a cleaner and more efficient way. In fact, one sweeper load of material collects between 50-300 gallons of water needing treatment.

The system works by the concrete pad collecting materials from on-terminal sweeping equipment, then separates water from solids. The water is channeled through an oil/water separator and eventually discharged to the city sewer system.

Final work on the project included completing the environmental team’s storage shed interior, connecting the hot box building with the compressor and power washer and installing the roof over the structure. The entire structure will be usable beginning this week, and a big thank you goes to the port maintenance team for their hard work.
