All about waterways: Port of Vancouver commissioners, staff attend PNWA Summer Conference
Ports, public agencies, shippers and others whose work relies on the great watercourses of the Pacific Northwest came together June 22-24 for the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association (PNWA) Summer Conference.
Held on the southern bank of the Columbia River in beautiful Hood River, Oregon, the conference featured topics as diverse as salmon recovery, channel deepening, irrigation districts, transportation funding and river forecasting.
Speakers included representatives from Bonneville Power Administration, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Insitu Inc., National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Vancouver Energy and the Washington and Oregon departments of transportation.
The Port of Vancouver USA Board of Commissioners and a few staff members attended this year’s conference to hear the latest on the health of regional waterways, learn about resources and develop relationships to support our trade-dependent state and region.
The Pacific Northwest is home to some of the mightiest waterways in the nation, and we rely on their strength and navigability to build and grow communities. The Port of Vancouver is proud to support PNWA in its mission to ensure policymakers and other leaders understand the importance of our waterways to the environmental and economic health of this region.
