VANCOUVER, Wash. and BISMARCK, N.D. – May 1, 2014 – The Port of Vancouver USA  (POV), a leading West Coast port for transporting bulk, break bulk and heavy-lift cargo, will exhibit at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference 2014 May 20-22 at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, N.D. Conference attendees are invited to stop by the POV booth #1303 to meet port representatives, discuss their transportation challenges, and hear how the port delivers the most efficient and cost-effective routes between Asia, the West Coast and the Midcontinent.

In addition to its exhibit booth, POV also will conduct a session Tuesday, May 20, at 2:30 p.m., on the topic of Reaching Coastal Markets. Curtis Shuck, POV director of economic development and facilities, will share his perspective on the logistics expertise and resources needed for moving cargo bound for the oil fields in the Upper Midwest and parts of Canada – such as oil sands modules, proppants and oil country tubular goods (OCTG) – to coastal markets. Session attendees also will learn how the port’s Advantaged Supply Chain can streamline inbound and outbound shipments, increase efficiency and reduce transportation costs.

“While we’re at this event, we’re talking with companies doing business in the Bakken region about the total project cost savings that come from shipping through the West Coast instead of Gulf ports,” said Shuck. “The Port of Vancouver is half the distance from the Pacific Rim as Gulf ports, and we offer the most direct and cost-effective rail access into the U.S. Midwest and Canada. Companies shipping between the Midcontinent and Asia via the Port of Vancouver USA achieve an average savings of 20 days voyage time and $700,000 compared to a route through Houston, Texas. Port of Vancouver is an attractive option they should consider.”

In addition to the port’s physical location advantage, POV also has a 100-year history of transporting both agricultural and industrial goods. The port has built a significant network of relationships and expertise to support the complicated logistical needs of today’s businesses.
