Thank you to all who attended the Port of Vancouver USA’s recent Rail Safety barbeque, the first of what is sure to be a series of events and activities focusing on the importance of maintaining a safe workplace.

During our centennial year, the port is continuing to make great strides on the West Vancouver Freight Access project, the largest capital project in the port’s history. To help maintain safety as a top priority, the port has implemented a rail safety program called “Keeping Safety on Track.”

The program provides advisories for working on the WVFA rail project, and has been implemented as part of a continuing effort to provide a safe workplace. The program leads port staff, contractors, service providers, tenants and customers working on and around the WVFA rail project through a brief presentation and ongoing training on expected safety protocols. Upon completion, participants receive a special WVFA Safety Program hard hat sticker indicating they have received the training.

The purpose of the Rail Safety Luncheon, held on July 12 at the Fruit Valley Community Center, was to inform contractors, engineers, surveyors, construction companies and their crews, as well as port staff about the importance of a strong commitment to safety.

During lunch, speakers included Port Commission President Nancy Baker, Port Commissioner Brian Wolfe, and port Director of Economic Development and Facilities Curtis Shuck.

Thank you again for those who joined us and to everyone for keeping safety on track! If you’d like more information on the WVFA Safety Program, please contact Isy Aguirre at 360-213-1246.
