• A GHG inventory is an accounting of the amount of greenhouse gases that are discharged into the atmosphere and their sources.
  • Several important pieces of information must be determined: what geographic area is being examined (a defined area of study); within a specific time frame (when the GHG discharge took place); and what the potential GHG sources could be within the study area. All of this information is then identified, quantified and reported.
  • The inventory allows an organization or agency to assess their current emissions helping the organization set targets for emissions reductions.
  • The port completed a greenhouse gas inventory of 2019 port-owned and controlled activities (Scope 1 and 2 emissions). GHG emission sources from activities in and around the port (Scope 3 emissions) were included in the City of Vancouver’s GHG inventory of 2019 emissions.
